The area of Jeddah Historic District - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - is 2.5 square kilometers. It contains five historical markets offering diverse products that mirror the active maritime trade of Jeddah's port. Additionally, it features over 600 historic buildings with unique architectural designs, testifying to the resourcefulness of its residents in adapting to their environment. Lastly, there are more than 36 historical mosques, including the Mosque of Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), which studies reveal to be over 1400 years old, and the Shafi'i Mosque, whose minaret was constructed in the seventh Hijri century.
